Al-Noor Holdings, a Qatar based company has announced its plans to raise the budget for a movie series on the life of Prophet Mohammed to $ 1 billion.
The biographical moive will be produced as a series of seven films, the Alnoor chairman Ahmed Al Hashemi was quoted as saying by the AFP.
The Team had undergone various artistic and dramatic challenges previously, but now has successfully completed writing the scenario, the company said.
Al Noor had announced in 2009 that it was looking out for financing for the film series which would be produced by Hollywood Producer Barrie Osborne, whose credits include blockbusters such as Lord of the Rings and the Matrix.
One of the prominent clerics of Qatar and the head of Association of Muslim Scholars,Mr.Sheikh Yusuf Qaradawi, will be leading the research on the film and also serve as technical consultant on the project, the AFP reported.
There will be no physical depiction of the Prophet , with due respect to Islamic tradition that forbids images of Prophet Mohammed.
The company also said that the movie initiative was a means “to correct the wrong image the Western societies have of Islam” .
This comes as a welcome move after the tumultous backlash and anti US protests across the Muslim world to the offensive movie which was released on Youtube earlier this year .
Al Noor Holdings which is owned by the Al Hashemi Group said that it was committed to becoming a dominant player in the International Media and Entertainment business.
